I doubt that the Canthan content will even be released before GW2 comes out unless it isn't until late next year.
John has a lot on his plate, and I just don't see that as feasible. But, then again, I also don't expect a beta until either January or April.

a few things.
First, we all know the obligatory 'unless Anet states the release date blah blah blah', that doesn't need to even be mentioned any more.
Second, I'm sure all reasonable people here, if they had to bet on a year on release, would be 2011. I certainly would. Considering the state of the hype machine right now, it's almost obvious.
Third, this is the point I really want to make. The PCGamer folks have been spending an *awful* lot of time with Anet staff lately, both in being the lead story in this month's issue, and lots of online articles and stuff they are putting in the GW2 forums. They must practically be rooming together. So when PCGamer puts 2011 on the cover, that's almost as good as Anet saying it themselves. That's my take on it.

everyone has their own opinion ... i personally think gw2 is closer than the devs let on. i think our "beta" will be a preview week or weekend (much like they've done before) with release to follow within 2 months. wouldn't be surprised to see the preview around new years, and the game out around february/march.
they've been saying "when it's ready" for years, but they've been very actively promoting the game this year + releasing new content + giving huge incentive for old/less active players to get back in to the game. they want to assure the largest interest and market possible when gw2 release time rolls around, and this is a good way to do it. they've successfully enticed old/less active + a lot of new players in to the game now so if they hold off on release for too long those people will again lose interest ... and that would be bad marketing.
that's just my 2 cents on the matter.

Where else are they pulling those projections out of? Charley and the effing Chocolate factory pulling up outside their door with magic geese squiting out golden eggs?
...I don't think so.

Are you saying that PCGamer may have put "2011" on their magazine without checking with ANet? I suppose it's possible...

I've seen these kinds of things and ads before and they get changed all the time. So, nothing is definite until Anet gives the word. It's going to be April of 2012 trust me.

I dont think GW:B is a good indicator for the GW2 release date. Its quite possible that new content may be released for GW1 even after GW2 is released. And I wont believe any release date unless I hear it from Anet.
